23.5

Earth’s axis is tilted at 23.5 degrees relative to its orbital plane, causing different hemispheres to receive varying amounts of direct sunlight throughout the year as Earth orbits the sun, resulting in our seasons.

Started on the Spring Equinox, March 20, 2025, I aim to make a small experimental work of art most days for a year inspired by my focus, discoveries and inspirations out and about. Here in Maine, so far north, we have dramatic seasonal shifts, and these big changes over time will be reflected in the works.

Late March
Snow and rain are doing back and forth as temperatures rise and fall. We have a few inches of snow on the ground so the landscape is mostly whites, icy grays, browns from bare tree bark and remnants of last year’s foliage died back. I found some amazing ice patterns in puddles and at the edges of ponds. There are some bright green mosses poking up and others covering rocks and the bases of some trees, along with sea green lichens. Looking up we had one brilliant cloudless sky a few days back, but mostly it’s been cloudy.

Visiting my feeder are Chickadees, Black Phoebes, Blue Jays, Cardinals, House Sparrows, Grey Squirrels, and a Red Squirrel.
